Morgan Center Opens in November
The Morgan Center is ready for business! This handsome, unique conference and events center opens the first week of November to receive conferences, meetings and social events after nearly a year of planning and re-construction.
The $3 million plus Morgan Center project, part of the Jekyll Island Revitalization Plan, was undertaken late December of last year when the owners of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel agreed to partner with the Jekyll Island Authority to bring life back to this historic building. |

Morgan Center Interior, Before & After Renovation

The interior and exterior of the building have received extensive renovations. A new floor, steel beams, new skylights, new interior wall surfaces and other components create an event space that is both spacious and light. Exterior shingles have been replaced, and the building has a new roof reflecting the original look of the historic building. The main floor, which is 4,900 square feet and has 45-foot ceilings, can accommodate more than 400 people. A newly created mezzanine, which overlooks the main floor, accommodates an additional 120 people. Constructed in 1929 as an indoor tennis court, the newly renovated facility promises to be one of the premiere event spaces in the region. |

Christmas Parties at the Club

The bi-level, newly remodeled Morgan Center, formerly the historic indoor tennis court, is ready to accommodate parties of 400 plus for receptions and up to 300, for meals.

Winner of Flickr Contest
Congratulations, Barbara Stoll of Abbeville, South Carolina, winner of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel Photo Contest in October. Her image, “A Peaceful Sunset,” was captured while she and her family visited the Jekyll Island Club last August. Like so many hotel guests, Ms. Stoll was irresistibly drawn to the beauty of Jekyll Island sunsets over the water.
Ms. Stoll wins two nights’ accommodations at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, and her photograph may appear soon on Flickr, Facebook and other social media and in our marketing promotions.
Other beautiful, interesting photographs received honorable mention. “Martini Shot” was captured by photographer Rod Rich of Atlanta, Georgia, and “Faith Chapel Steeple from Crane Cottage” by Paul A. Andrews of Lake Mary, Florida.
The image, taken in July of 2006, was given the unusual caption, Mr. Rich says, “…because the next shot will be from the hotel lobby bar and consumed on the porch while I’m sitting in one of those white wicker rockers.”
You may have a digital image of your recent Jekyll Island visit that is outstanding and eligible for the photo contest.

Winner of Guest of the Month
Our September Guest of the Month was Marvin Choate and his fiancée Kim Bechert from Snellville, Ga. Marvin has played in the Georgia Bell Golf Classic for the past 22 years and always makes a point to stay a few extra days prior to the tournament to enjoy the "comfort and pleasure of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel before the competition begins."
During his most recent trip to the Jekyll Island Club Hotel Marvin and his fiancée Kim were joined by friends Bob and Nancy Sims. They enjoyed taking the Island Historic Tram Tour, bike rides, dinner in the Grand Dining Room and a visit to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center where Marvin and Kim purchased a beautiful sea turtle sculpture to take home. |

When asked to share a favorite memory of the hotel, Marvin reminisced on the filming of a famous movie. "One of the fondest memories I have was during the filming of The Legend of Bagger Vance. The hotel was a perfect setting for the movie."
With family in Jacksonville, Florida, it is not unusual for Marvin and Kim to return to the hotel around the Christmas holidays. Sometimes arriving at 11pm or midnight on Christmas night after spending the day with his family.

Jekyll Island Club Hotel Goes Mobile
The Jekyll Island Club Hotel announces a brand new mobile site, jiclub.mobi. This mobile site gives users access to packages, accommodations, dining, activities and events at the Jekyll Island club Hotel. Mobile users can also book reservations.
General Manager Kevin runner, an avid mobile user, is pleased with the outcome of the site. He states, “The mobile site is very user-friendly and allows guests to have all the hotel’s information in the palms of their hands. Going mobile is the newest step in the hotel industry, allowing us to connect with guests on the go. We realize our guests are always on the go and a mobile site allows them to easily access our website.”
An added feature on the mobile site links all of Jekyll Island Club Hotel’s social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Turret Talk, the Jekyll Island Club Hotel blog. Visit these sites for up to the minute updates and information.
The mobile site was created specifically for the iPhone but is compatible with all smart phones. The site incorporates the hotel's
